THE IMPORTANCE OF CARING FOR YOUR MIND




Taking care of your mind is so important. It seems like such a cliché thing to say but it is so true. I am not afraid to admit that I have my low points and breakdowns, it is absolutely normal. Even though I have the most amazing family, partner, an education, a job, etc. I have days (and sometimes on a daily basis) when I feel low and like I'm not myself, I think the main reason for this for me is due to stress. Life can be super stressful at times and this is totally normal. Don't be afraid to admit to that. Have a cry and let your emotions out if need be. You don't have to put on a front and always be on top of everything. I learnt this recently. 

The other day I had a breakdown where I just cried to Warren (my boyfriend) for hours, bless his heart. I just feel like everything is getting on top of me and I have no time to care for myself or do anything for me and it is really draining. After the long hours of crying I felt better but most importantly it made me realise that I need to take care of myself. So after coming to the realisation that I needed to take a time out, I ran myself a hot bubble bath, lit some candles and poured myself a glass of wine. I put on a 'How to Get Away with Murder' and I had some me time and it felt amazing. Although I had so much work to be getting on with for uni, I decided to put it all to the back of my head and have some me time. Do you know what? I felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off of my shoulders (another cliché sounding quote - but it literally is what it felt like). That small amount of time to myself to relax and do what I wanted to do made me feel so much better.  It just goes to show that everyone needs to take care of themselves from time to time and you must remember to put yourself first. 

A FEW SIMPLE TIPS WHICH CAN HELP  WHEN TIMES GET TOUGH


Go for a walk - for me, walking and getting some fresh air really helps to clear my mind and calm me down if I'm feel angry or stressed. I went for a walk a few evenings ago and I was super stressed, but within around 5 minutes of walking I noticed how much I had calmed down. 

Speak to someone who you trust and has your best interests at heart - I am so lucky to have such an amazing partner, he is the person I go to to talk about anything. He listens to me ramble and tells me everything is going to be okay and is always there for me to let my thoughts out on and it really helps. Bottling everything up is definitely not the answer. 

Remind yourself of your worth - remember that you are important, you are worthy and you deserve the same love that you give to everyone else. Remember to give that love to yourself daily.

  2. Amazing post lovely. I've just recently gone through a rocky period and kick myself for letting myself get to that point, I've definitely learned the importance of me time. I'm lucky enough to have a partner who I can pour my heart out too, we're lucky girls!

  3. Lovely ideas!! I'm glad you're feeling better now :) I love going for a walk to clear my head or having a rant and cry to a loved one. Always makes me feel a bit better and relieves some of that awful tension xx

  4. I love reading posts like these! Makes me feel like I'm not the only one who just breaks down! Way too often we close ourselves off, but the best thing really is to just vent to someone and it's OK to just take some time out! I think once you take that 'me time' you are able to put things into perspective and yeah. As my friend would always remind me... Everything will be ok in the end, if it's not ok, it's not the end <3
