HOW TO TAKE QUALITY BLOG PHOTOGRAPHS WITH YOUR PHONE

December 06, 2016

Do not underestimate what your smartphone can do. I REPEAT - DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE WHAT YOUR SMARTPHONE CAN DO. I don't have a high-quality camera (yet) to take photos for my blog, Instagram etc. so I simply just use my beloved iPhone. I entirely plan on getting a fancy shmancy camera, but not just yet. I used to be absolutely terrible at taking photos but now after a lot of practice and playing around with all of the editing settings and all the apps in the IOS app store, I think I have finally got the hang of it. I'm still no pro but it'll do for now. I know the struggle of wanting to take good quality photos for our blogs, social media and so on, wanting the perfect flat lays, so I thought I would save you the endless hours of practising and struggling and share my tips with you on how to I get pretty decent photos for my blog with my iPhone!

LIGHTING

Lighting is SO important, I cannot stress how important it is. Taking photos in a dingy light is pretty hard ey? So why not set up near a window or in a room with natural light and get a beautiful bright photo and save yourself a bit of time when it comes to editing? Bright natural light gets rid of that yellowy colour in photos and it just looks so much crisper and professional.

BACKGROUNDS

I absolutely LOVE my marble background. I mean who doesn't? (probably a few people) but it is the craze at the moment and I for one am proud to be a part of that craze because my marble background makes my photos appear much more professional, stylish, and I could take a photo of the most boring thing ever and it would probably still look good because of the marble background. I think you get the gist. BUT you don't have to go all out, you can get a role of cheap marble self-adhesive vinyl film here. I have also recently purchased this white wood self-adhesive vinyl film which you can get here, which I've fallen in love with. These self-adhesive vinyl films help to give you a variety of backgrounds for your photos and help them to look more professional but on a budget which I am a big fan of.

PROPS

I love props, I feel like they give photos more life. I love to use copper wire lights (which you can get here), real or artificial flowers and plants, jewellery, make-up, magazines, clothing, etc. These props also help to create great flat lays.

EDITING APPS

The editing process is really important. The various settings (brightness, contrast, highlight, sharpening etc.) can help improve your photos and take them from a 2 to a 10 with just a few alterations!

I like to use Facetune to whiten my photos and then Snapseed to brighten, contrast, saturate if need be, highlight, brighten any shadows, and lastly, I also like to use VSCO for their filters, I mainly use F2 mostly but I'm a fan of HB1 and HB2 also.

CYPRUS | AUGUST 2016

September 24, 2016 Ayia Napa, Cyprus

have been lucky enough to have gone on two lovely holidays this year, Greece and Cyprus. On the 24th of August, Warren and I and our two friends (also a couple) went on holiday together to Cyprus, Ayia Napa for a week. It was a lovely holiday and just what we all needed!

A few snippets from our travels

This beach was a 2-minute walk from our hotel, it was so beautiful, you could walk out so far and it would still be shallow! The water was clear and warm and the sand was gorgeous.

As part of our all-inclusive package, we were allowed one free trip to the A La Carté restaurant. I felt so fancy in my black dress from Oh Polly.

We all had Chicken Teriyaki Noodles for our mains and it was beautiful!

We spent a lot of our time in the pool, there was a pool bar which was fabulous. Being able to swim over whenever you wanted for a drink or snack without getting out of the pool was great.

We went to Nissi Beach which was beautiful! Clear sea, white sand, music. Such a fun and happy atmosphere yet relaxing at the same time. You could walk out so far but some parts would go shallow and then deep.

As you can see in the image above, Warren decided to bury me. I had sand EVERYWHERE.

We went on a boat cruise to Famagusta Bay, Konnos Bay, and Blue Lagoon. The water was unreal, so blue and clear and you barely had to tread the water as you would just float.

Overall, I had a wonderful holiday with wonderful company. I feel so lucky to have travelled to two amazing destinations all in the same year. I have definitely caught the holiday bug and cannot wait to go on many more adventures.

SIGHTSEEING IN HONG KONG

August 04, 2016 Hong Kong

feel so honoured to say that my families origin is Hong Kong because it's truly a beautiful place. I have been to Hong Kong twice now and I would love to go again and explore even more. I last visited Hong Kong in 2014, unfortunately not for very nice circumstances. My Great Grandma passed away so we decided to go and visit my Great Grandad, however, just two months after my Great Grandma passed away, and just two weeks before we were due to go to Hong Kong, my Great Grandad passed away. Instead of visiting him for what presumably would have been the last time, we attended his funeral instead. The funeral was a lovely, traditional send-off, I'm so grateful to have got the chance to say my goodbyes.

During our time in Hong Kong, despite the sad event, we managed to explore what seemed to be a lot of Hong Kong but wasn't really when you look at all of the other attractions there are to see! These are the main attractions I visited during my time in Hong Kong.

Victoria Peak (The Peak)

Victoria Peak is breathtaking, the 360-degree panoramic view of Hong Kong is unreal. You can get to The Peak by Tram which is incredible, it rises to 1,300 feet (it made my ears pop) and it is so steep that the buildings look like they are leaning! Once you get to the top, you can go to the Sky Terrace (which is where these pictures were taken), but there are also many other things to do and see like dining and shopping!

The Markets

You can't go to Hong Kong and not visit the markets! The Ladies Market (Tung Choi Street) is a long street full of markets which sell a variety of things like accessories, souvenirs, clothes, watches. Be sure to haggle though as they will try to get your money out of you! Luckily my Dad was with us (who can speak Chinese) and he helped us to haggle even more!

Ten Thousand Buddha's

Tian Tan Buddha (The Big Buddha: Lantau Island)

The Big Buddha is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, it is 34 meters high and is made of bronze. To get to the Big Buddha you have to get a cable car which is amazing, you can see so many views and once you get to the top you come to the Ngong Ping Village. To get to the top of the Buddha you have to climb nearly 300 steps but it is well worth it. The Big Buddha is so high that when we were walking through the village the top of the Buddha's head was in the clouds.

Victoria Harbour Cruise

Victoria Harbour is stunning. You can catch the Star Ferry and witness the beautiful views by boat (on clear days you can see The Peak in the distance) or stroll along the Harbour and visit the Avenue of Stars and so much more!

Café de Coral

Café de Coral was by far my favourite place to eat in Hong Kong, I could eat breakfast, lunch and dinner there (which I did quite a lot) and it is super cheap too! My favourite dish was rice, duck and pak choi!
Wrapping it up, Hong Kong is incredible and I hope to visit again in the near future. Whilst we did so much exploring, there is still a lot more to see and experience.

EXPLORING GREECE / MAY 2016

June 27, 2016 Kos, Greece

On May 31st 2016, Warren and I set off on our first holiday together to Kos, Greece. We went for 7 nights and stayed at the most fabulous hotel in Psalidi, Greece (Oceanis Beach and Spa Resort). During our time in Greece, we did so much exploring. The places which I have written about in this post are places which we visited and completely took our breath away!
